The Certificate in High Voltage Protection and Control: Enhanced Skills consists of the fourth and fifth modules of the Certificate in High Voltage Protection and Control
This 100% online certificate program consists of three training modules and covers the protection and control of high voltage stations and high voltage line protection. This is an integral part of maintaining all industrial and utility high voltage systems and because of its complexity requires specialized performance-based training in order to work safely and competently. This online training will provide the foundation, discipline and philosophy needed to be successful. Upon completion of the certificate program participants will be positioned to comfortably perform and deal with ongoing and site-specific details and changes as they maneuver throughout the Protection and Control profession.

This online certificate consists of three modules. Live online sessions of approximately 60 minutes are held every Monday, 7:00 – 8:00 pm Eastern Standard Time (EST). Online sessions plus course notes provided in hardcopy pdf format

It is recommended that participants take the five modules in sequential order, however, this is not a requirement. The certificate is awarded after the completion of the five modules, including all quizzes and final exams. This represents approximately 200 hours of training which includes online sessions, home study, assignments and examination preparation. The participants must attain a minimum of 65% for each Module and an aggregate average of at least 75% in the program.

Patrick C. Van Brunt, B.Sc., P.Eng., is a registered Professional Engineer with over 30 years of experience in the field of Protection and Control Engineering, working mostly in Ontario, Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He developed and delivered Protection & Control training courses for over 10 years at the 3rd largest Electrical Utility in North America as well as worked for 12 years in the field as a Protection & Control Field Engineer at Bruce Nuclear Power Development followed by two years in the department of Protection Design Engineering. He has also work as a part-time Electrical and Computer Engineering professor at Queens University in Kingston Ontario Canada.
Patrick’s engineering activities cover the development of a self-study training program of engineering Protection & Control standards and the delivery/instruction of protection philosophies and control specifications. He assisted in the complete commissioning of Specialized Protection & Control systems, guided and inspected the work of other engineers, monitored contractors on-site, and personally worked on generating plant commissioning and maintenance work. Patrick assisted generating plants in resolving and troubleshooting difficult problems from conceptual engineering to in-service and ongoing maintenance. He also assisted Construction and Maintenance and System Control Operators to resolve difficult and detail intensive technical issues. Patrick is the President of P&I Technologies Inc. - a firm specializing in Protection and Control Engineering.
