Course Description

This course is 20 learning hours inclusive of 2 hours of live sessions. It is recommended that students spend an average of 5 hours per week on this course.

This course will explore tips and techniques for producing concise, easy-to-read documents spanning the project lifecycle. Such documents include requirements, statements of work, project charters, and status reports.

Course Outline

Week 1:
In week one, you’ll learn writing principles that will help you write clearer documents. You’ll also explore how to create detailed project communication plans.(Audience analysis, communications plan, stakeholder analysis)
 
Week 2:
Week two will focus on writing a statement of work. You’ll learn to write statements of work that build trust, clarify goals, gain commitment, and motivate action.(Evolving statements of work, SOW mistakes to avoid, building SOW templates, drafting SOWs)
 
Week 3:
In week three, you’ll continue using writing principles to write audience-centred project documents. This week you will focus on project charters, which are persuasive documents that convince all parties involved to buy into the project vision. (Range of PM documents, project charter templates, project charter checklist, project vision)

Week 4:
Finally, you’ll learn to write effective status reports in week four. You’ll focus on providing a status of your project, as well as including recommendations, issues, and solutions. (Status report goals and strategies, templates, frequency, action steps)
