Course Description

This course will provide the experienced beekeeper with various techniques to produce honey bee queens for their own use and to sell to others in the industry. This introduction will include discussions of honey bee genetics and development of a breeding program to meet individual objectives, as well as demonstrating the techniques and equipment required to produce healthy, productive queen bees.



Participants will need the following: protective gear (hat, veil) and closed toed footwear. Long sleeved, light colored and light material clothing is suggested. Refillable water bottles are recommended. A notebook and pencil can be handy. Cameras are welcomed.

This course is limited to participants from Nova Scotia only.

Participants should have at least 3 years of beekeeping experience and have a minimum of 20 current colonies.
