Securing Your Student Information
This is an important notice that requires action from you to make sure your personal information at Dalhousie remains safe and secure. You may not be familiar with the term multi-factor authentication (or MFA), but if you bank online, you likely use it every day.
In fact, almost all online services - banks, social media, shopping and Microsoft 365 - have added a way for your accounts to be more secure. When you sign into the account for the first time on a new device or application (like a web browser), you need more than just the username and password. You need a second thing - the second "factor" in multi-factor - to prove who you are. Often times, you are asked to add a verification code that can be texted to you or called in to your phone. You will not need to verify your identity every time you try to log in to Dalhousie. It will only prompt you with a second factor to verify if you’re accessing your account from a new device or application.
Starting early in 2023, Dalhousie requires all students with a NetID to enrol in Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) so we can secure your account. You will be given the option to add MFA when you set your NetID password.
IF YOU HAVE NOT YET SIGNED UP:
- Visit dal.ca/mfa (login required, NETID@dal.ca).
- Follow the 3 steps on the page and make sure you enable your account.
IF YOU HAVE SIGNED UP BUT IT’S NOT WORKING OR YOU WANT TO ENSURE YOU’RE ENROLLED:
- Visit dal.ca/mfa (login required, NETID@dal.ca).
- Click the link in Step 3, “Enable MFA for your account” (highlighted yellow in screenshot below).
- If a green box appears with “MFA already enabled” you are set up properly.
- If you are asked to enable/authenticate because you have not yet done so, please do it and it will complete your enrollment.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact ITS at support@dal.ca or 902-494-4357.
