OLCD Fire Service Experience Application

This application ensures the student's fire service experience is documented within their profile so that they are able to self-register for courses with fire service experience as a prerequisite. Courses requiring a minimum of 3 years fire service experience to enrol are the three courses in the Certificate in Fire Service Leadership.

Note: Applications cannot be processed until they are completed and submitted. Please do not have more than one Fire Service Experience Application in progress at one time.

What is OpenDal?
OpenDal is the learning management system for lifelong learning at Dalhousie University. OpenDal is accessed by logging into your student profile via the Student Portal using either your NetID or your OPEN_X username.

What is a NetID username?
The NetID username is your Dalhousie University account. It gives you access to your Dalhousie email, OpenDal (the University's lifelong learning Learning Management System, or LMS), off-campus access to Library e-resources, and to other services at Dalhousie. If you enrol in a course that requires access to university resources like the libraries or other services, you will use your NetID to log in to the student portal.

What is an Open_X username?
An OPEN_X username is provided after you have created your student profile. Using the OPEN_X username, you may log in to the Student Portal to access your course and additional student materials. Please note: If you register for a course that requires a NetID, your OPEN_X username will no longer be active and you should log in using your NetID.

How do I know if I have a NetID?
If you have a student or staff email account at Dalhousie University, you have a NetID username and password. If you enrol in a course that requires a NetID to access additional library resources, and you have never had a NetID before, you will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your NetID.

What if I can't remember my NetID password?
If you’ve forgotten your NetID password, go to myaccount.dal.ca a and choose “Begin Password Reset” from the Forgot Your Password section of the page.

What's the difference between NetID and OPEN_X usernames?
An OPEN_X username is provided when you create a profile on this website. It can be used to login to your student portal until you enrol in a course that requires NetID access. Once you activate your NetID and set a password by visiting myaccount.dal.ca, you will use your NetID username and password to enrol in courses and access your student information.
