Only sixteen percent of organizations are fully integrated and despite traditional project management practices, over half of complex projects fail in terms of cost overruns and schedule delays.
The shared vision of both the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the International Council of Systems Engineering (INCOSE) highlights the need for project managers and systems engineers of the future to adopt collaborative and digital-age skills in addressing system and project complexity.
Both systems engineering and project management require an integrated systems approach for product, project, and organizational success. Earning a certificate in these areas provides an understanding of the system and project complexities at play.
This Systems Engineering and Complex Project Management Certificate provides foundational skills and knowledge to enhance and improve system design and project management. Topics include the product lifecycle, cross-functional processes, systems thinking, models and tools, and the integration of multi-disciplinary teams. For a hands-on snapshot, a Systems Engineering expert guest speaker will share their expertise and current experiences with the group in all but the first course.
This certificate is a three-course series that prepares students to understand and practice key concepts in Systems Engineering and Complex Project Management. It is aimed at working professionals in engineering design, production, government, and the military.
What Will You Learn?
- An awareness of and appreciation for systems engineering
- Knowledge and skills in systems engineering that will enable you to contribute to product, service, and project success
- An understanding of the systems engineering model-based approach to identify and define objects, interfaces, states of systems, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) views
- Skills to be applied in systems engineering, organization, and project performance tools that achieve integration
Who Should Take This Certificate?
- Project managers
- Junior engineers (both pre and post-graduation)
- Senior engineers looking to broaden their breadth of knowledge
- Junior and senior technicians/technologists
- analysts, innovators, technologists, designers, developers, project managers, system thinkers, and leaders from various fields where understanding complex systems is important to product and project success
How Will You Benefit?
The Certificate in Systems Engineering and Complex Project Management can help you:
- enhance and improve system design and management.
- understand the structure and integration of systems and sub-systems.
- apply systems engineering to complex product and system development.
- understand the value of model-based systems engineering.
- apply skills in agile engineering and project management
Fees and Schedule
This certificate consists of three courses (two required courses and one required elective) that are recommended to be taken in order. The first course is fully asynchronous (Online Self-Paced) and can be taken at any time and at your own pace. The remaining two courses mix Online Self-Paced and Online Scheduled and include guided sessions with your instructor. The fees listed do not include textbooks or software (required for Course III).
Required:
- Course I: Systems Engineering Fundamentals (available now) - $425.00
- Course IV: Complex Project Management and Systems Engineering Integration (In-development) - exact fee not yet determined
Electives (one required)
- Course II: Systems Engineering Advanced Concepts (Available February 18, 2025) - $1,195.00
- Course III: Model-Based Systems Engineering and Systems Analysis (In-development) - exact fee not yet determined
Note: Your registration is not guaranteed until your seat is confirmed and our Registration Office has contacted you. Fees are based on the current academic year and are subject to change. No deferral of the non-refundable deposit or program fees is allowed. Text and materials related to courses may constitute an additional cost.
Certificate Requirements
It is highly recommended that participants complete the three courses in sequential order. The certificate is awarded after the completion of all three courses, including all quizzes, assignments, and exams. This represents approximately 71 hours of training including online sessions, home study, assignments, and exam preparation. The participants must attain a minimum of 70% for each course.
