Course Description
As Casino and iGaming legislation continues to evolve worldwide, so does the need to understand and effectively manage the risks involved with these industries. ‘Casino Gaming Investigations’ explores and examines the essential topics in casino and iGaming compliance. Students will develop a deep knowledge of the risks faced by Casino and iGaming operators, understand how the sector can be exploited by criminals, and build effective mitigation strategies against them.
This fully online course is offered jointly by Dalhousie University and the Association of Certified Gaming Compliance Specialists (ACGCS). Completion of the course will give students the Certified Gaming Compliance Specialist (CGCS) certification from the ACGCS.

What You Will Learn
- Understand the legal casino and iGaming landscape
- Have an awareness of the recent approach to casino gaming
- Understand key risks faced by casino and iGaming operators, including money laundering and fraud
- Be familiar with how sports betting works and how betting manipulation can occur
- Be aware of common crime typologies that impact casino gaming, including human trafficking and loansharking
- Have an awareness of the legal and regulatory framework that casinos and iGaming operators follow
Microcredential
This course provides learners with the opportunity to earn a microcredential. A microcredential is evidence of a skill or competency that is employment related. 
Dalhousie microcredentials are developed in collaboration with employers, industries, and/or organizations that relate to the content. A microcredential can be displayed on social media pages, digital resumes, personal webpages, and in email signatures. To earn the microcredential in this course, learners will need to successfully complete a competency-based assessment.

Dr Ian Messenger joined the United Kingdom’s Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) in 2008 as an International Operations Officer with responsibility for international and multilateral investigations through Interpol and Europol. Ian was later seconded to the UK’s Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre where he served as their International Liaison Officer with responsibility for capacity building, international liaison, and private sector engagement.
