Course Description

This course is 2 learning hours. Student can complete this course in one session, or at their own pace.

Under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, workplaces are required to have a supportive Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) or representative to follow the regulations. These committees are vital for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. Understanding the roles and responsibilities of employers and employees promotes shared accountability. Knowing the reporting structure and procedures for investigating incidents enables prompt hazard responses. Proper documentation practices enhance transparency and continuous improvement. Familiarity with these aspects contributes to a safer work environment and the overall effectiveness of the JOHSC.

This course will give participants the knowledge needed to successfully initiate the formation of a JOHSC. It will also prepare management, supervisors, and employees to form a JOHS Committee in their workplace, as required by the OHS Act.
