Course Description

Respiratory hazards are common in many workplaces, and both frontline workers and management must have a shared understanding of respiratory protection. Knowing how to protect yourself and others from respiratory hazards helps ensure safety and compliance with regulations. Various controls and precautions can be taken to limit exposure to respiratory hazards and help ensure safety at work.

This course will introduce the learner to respiratory protection. Students will learn about common respiratory hazards, control methods, respirator classifications, filtration types, the two forms of fit testing, correct donning and doffing procedures, user seal checks, cleaning, and common best practices for respirator usage.

Course Outline

There are a total of six modules that make up the Respiratory Protection course:

  • Module 1: Introduction
  • Module 2: Hazards
  • Module 3: Respirators
  • Module 4: Filtration
  • Module 5: Fit Testing
  • Module 6: Usage, Care and Best Practice

  • The three types of respiratory hazards
  • The main types of respirators
  • The difference between tight-fitting and loose-fitting respirators
  • The main types of filtration
  • The location of relevant information in the SDS
  • The two types of fit tests, and when a fit test is required
  • The steps to inspect a respirator
  • Proper donning and Doffing procedures
  • The two types of user seal checks
  • Proper cleaning and storage procedures
