IMPORTANT, please read:
  • The first two courses are self-paced, asynchronous, followed by a test.
  • Participants will have access to the material and test for 30 days, starting the enrolment date. You can take the test up to 3 times until you reach the passing grade of 80% - (8/10).
  • The second course will be available starting April 1, 2025 and the third hands-on course will be set up later in 2025.
  • The material is available on OpenDal; instructions on how to access material will be featured in the payment receipt. Please make sure you read your receipt fully.
  • At the completion of each of the first two courses, you will be granted a CE letter after passing the quiz.
  • At the completion of the third course, you will be granted a certificate.

Prerequisites

  • The first section is a prerequisite for the second section; you are not able to register for Section 2 if you have not completed and passed the first one.
  • The second section is a prerequisite for the third section; you are not able to register for Section 3 if you have not completed and passed the second one.

This course focuses on the Provincial and National standards related to infection prevention and control practices in the dental setting. Participants will learn about the dynamic nature of infection prevention and control and gain practical knowledge on breaking the chain of infection. The course covers 4 key components:

  1. Patient screening and risk assessment.
  2. Routine practices in IPAC.
  3. Antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic stewardship.
  4. Continuing education.

Participants will learn how to implement best practices and safeguard themselves, their patients, and the public from disease transmission.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify the links in the chain of infection and understand the routine practices required to break the chain.
  • Conduct patient risk assessments competently and effectively.
  • Understand the relationship between chairside best practices and medical device reprocessing and how they can safeguard dental health care personnel and patients from disease transmission.
  • Understand the process to follow in case of percutaneous exposure to blood or bodily fluids.
