Course Description

This online course is 36 learning hours over twelve weeks, including 7.5 hours of live online sessions. It is recommended that students spend a minimum of 3 hours each week on coursework. Students may choose to complete more hours of work on the course in order to explore the content in more depth. 


For the past five years, organizations have been forced to adapt to labour shortages, shifting working models, and demands from followers to lead differently. Leaders are searching for the right skills to respond to these demands including the rapid pace of innovation required for the world around them. Talented professionals want to work with leaders who are transparent, nurture authentic connections with people, motivate and inspire them to be part of a vision that aligns with their values and provides meaning to their day-to-day work experience.

With in-depth self-examination, this course can help you gain valuable personal insights and develop into such a leader for today's workplace. You'll apply theory and leadership concepts to everyday challenges, including those you are facing in your current role. As part of this learning experience, you'll also be asked to prepare an in-depth reflective leadership plan that supports your personal goals and aspirations for the leader you want to become.

What You Will Learn

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the leadership style that aligns with your personal values and influences your leadership path.

  • Practice leadership theory on current workplace issues and lead confidently with your personalized leadership plan

Required Software
A webcam and microphone/headset will be required for the live sessions. This course requires a Dalhousie NetID. If you do not currently have a NetID, a NetID will be assigned to you, and—after registration—you will receive an email on how to claim your account. Once you have claimed your account, you will login to the Student Portal under the heading "I have a NetID Username and Password" on the far left of the login screen.

This course has scheduled written assignments and discussions within the term time frame. There will also be five facilitated online sessions - click on View Details for dates. *Please note: Live session dates may be subject to change based on instructor schedule. Dates of the sessions will be confirmed six weeks before the course start date.*
