Course Description
This course has been developed to prepare pharmacists for expanded scope of prescribing for acute otitis media, acute otitis externa, pharyngitis, and sinusitis. Virtual modules have been prepared by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers with expertise in diagnosing and treating these infections.
These modules were made possible through a research project led by Emily Black, Associate Professor at Dalhousie University, and funded by a grant from the Shoppers Drug Mart Collaborative Advisory Group.
Modules will provide foundational knowledge which can be applied through additional training opportunities. This program does not assess competency. Pharmacists are expected to take reasonable steps to assess their competency to perform these assessments as outlined by the Standards in their province.
Please note at this time, only pharmacists at designated Community Pharmacy Primary Care Clinics are approved to prescribe for acute bacterial sinusitis, acute otitis media, and acute otitis externa. Pharmacists practicing outside these clinics should refer to the NSCP Standards of Practice: Prescribing Drugs
The modules can be purchased as a complete suite here: Assessment and Prescribing for Respiratory Trace and Ear Infections Complete Training Program.
The sections on the right offer one or two modules packaged together.
