Anthropogenic climate change can no longer be denied; globally, healthcare contributes roughly 4.6% to total global greenhouse gas emissions annually. All sectors of society need to reevaluate their methods of operation to mitigate these emissions if we are to slow down global warming and the consequences thereof. This presentation will offer suggestions as to how you can make your dental practice more sustainable, broken down into prevention, supply chain, transport, buildings and energy, drugs and devices, natural systems, food, and most importantly, leadership.

At the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
  • Create awareness in the Canadian dental community about the current state of our planet with respect to climate change and environmental degradation, and what steps we can take to improve our impact.
  • Create awareness in the Canadian professional dental community about the need to address dental waste management and carbon footprint, and move to more sustainable protocols in clinical dentistry, while still keeping our patients safe.
  • Recommend practical protocols and products that improve sustainable outcomes in clinical dentistry, while still keeping our patients safe.

Endo-excellence: Navigating the root canal journey - from diagnosis to precision treatment (Lecture)

This comprehensive course is designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in endodontics, focusing on the entire root canal treatment process. Participants will gain insights into the latest diagnostic tools, treatment planning strategies, and advanced techniques in root canal therapy. The course is divided into two main sessions: a morning didactic lecture and an afternoon hands-on practice session. In the hands-on session, participants will have the opportunity to try different irrigations tools, hand, rotary and reciprocating instruments and motors, and obturation equipment and techniques. Participants will also have the opportunity to experiment a dental microscope.

This section represents the Lecture part of the course.
You can choose to take it solely, without the hands-on session and so, by adding this section you would have registered for the Lecture only.
If you wish to take the hands-on, please scroll down and add DNTL-DENT0200-004 to your cart before checking out.

At the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
  • Accurately diagnose endodontic conditions using clinical assessment and radiographic interpretation.
  • Overcome challenges in anesthesia specific to endodontics by understanding factors affecting anesthesia success and implementing strategies to manage local anesthesia problems.
  • Understand root canal anatomy and access by exploring the complexities of root canal systems and learning techniques to locate canals effectively.
  • Use strategies to locate canals and understand the importance of tooth structure preservation.
  • Practice cleaning and shaping techniques using hand files, rotary and reciprocating systems, as well as understand the importance of proper irrigation protocols.
  • Stay updated with new trends in disinfection to ensure optimal outcomes in root canal treatments.
  • Execute obturation techniques such as warm vertical compaction and single-cone obturation with confidence.

The incidence and patterns of oral cancer are changing. Anyone can develop oral cancer, although older smokers and alcohol consumers remain at the highest risk. How should you modify your dental examination to effectively identify potentially dangerous changes early? How can you evaluate findings for potential danger? What are the best practices to deal with potentially dangerous findings? Explore these topics with a seasoned oral pathologist who has spent decades treating patients with puzzling oral lesions.

At the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
  • Summarize the changing demographics of oral/oropharyngeal cancer.
  • Discuss the etiology, management, and role of oral healthcare providers in: Tobacco and alcohol-associated oral/oropharyngeal cancer and HPV-associated oral/oropharyngeal cancer.
  • Explain why a simple oral exam may no longer be sufficient to screen for oral/oropharyngeal cancer.
  • Describe the elements of a thorough head and neck cancer exam in general dental practice.
  • Use a basic mnemonic to categorize potential oral and maxillofacial diagnoses.
  • Discuss evidence-based practice guidelines for dealing with potentially premalignant oral and maxillofacial lesions.
