Course Description
This capstone course examines frontier developments shaping clinical informatics. Learners evaluate the clinical, technical, privacy, and sustainability implications of Patient-Generated Health Data (PGHD) from wearables, secure Application Programming Interface (API) ingestion, generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), and large language models. Practical focus includes clinical prompt engineering, auditing for hallucinations, model drift, and demographic bias, as well as Green Information Technology (IT) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations.
Course Outline
- Module 1: Patient-Generated Health Data (PGHD), Wearables, and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
- Module 2: Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Algorithmic Oversight
- Module 3: Green Information Technology (IT) and Sustainable Deployment
What You Will Learn
Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Assess the secure ingestion of wearable and Patient-Generated Health Data (PGHD)
- Evaluate clinical applications of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs)
- Engineer prompts to support safer clinical summarization
- Audit for hallucinations, model drift, and algorithmic bias
- Evaluate digital health projects against Green Information Technology (IT) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals
Notes
By enrolling in this course, you will be automatically enrolled in the Certificate in Clinical Informatics Analyst, developed in partnership with NewPath Education. The Faculty of Open Learning & Career Development recommends an intermediate level of English language proficiency for the most effective learning and participation in our online and face-to-face courses. A list of the minimum recommended scores on some common English tests can be found on our website. If you have questions about your English language proficiency and ability to succeed in this course, please contact openlearning@dal.ca.
