Course Description

This course is 21 learning hours inclusive of 21 hours of live sessions.

This course in Systems Engineering Advanced Concepts aims to inspire systems engineering and provide skills for both product and project success.  This course presents systems engineering advanced concepts, principles, standards, processes, and tools to help better understand system complexity, and improve decision-making and ability to adapt to change. In this course, systems engineering principles and tools are applied through a class project concerning a practical physical system. Short readings and videos are provided throughout the course. Throughout your learning, you will come to realize that systems engineering provides a structured, standardized, and proven approach to ensure systems are designed efficiently, risks are mitigated, and project goals are achieved.

Course Outline

  • Module 1: Systems Engineering Recap, Applications, and Integrated Teams
  • Module 2: Systems Engineering Design Development and Group Projects
  • Module 3: Systems Engineering Processes
  • Module 4: Systems Engineering Design Principles, MBSE, and Systems Thinking
  • Module 5: Group Project Presentations

What You Will Learn

The main objective of this course is to provide students with systems engineering knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to product, service and project success. This course benefits engineers, project managers, and those in the value chain who are involved with aspects of the development and delivery of products and services, and by the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • identify Systems Engineering knowledge including processes, roles, and responsibilities.
  • apply systems engineering to complex product and system development.
  • analyze system architecture variants, optimization, and trade-offs.
  • recognize systems engineering documents including the systems engineering management plan
