Course Description

This course is an online, independent self-study course. Once registered, learners will have access to the course for the two-month period following the date of registration. Learners can work at their own pace.

 

This course has been approved as NS Environment course number T2002, worth a total of 6.0 points. The point breakdown by topic is as follows:

  • 1.5 points for Application Technology
  • 1.0 point for Environment
  • 1.0 point for Human Health & Safety
  • 1.0 point for Labeling
  • 1.5 points for Pest Management

Course Outline

The course covers the following topics: 

  • An introduction to the use of pesticides and the certification process in Nova Scotia 
  • Sprayer calibration and agrochemical calculations 
  • Types of pests, including weeds, insects and diseases, and the pesticides that control them  
  • Pesticide safety and human health 
  • The environmental fates of pesticides 
  • Integrated pest management (IPM)

Notes

To acquire full points for the course, you must work through the course content in these areas and complete the respective quizzes with a grade of 70% or higher. CEP receipts will be issued when you have completed the course, including all quizzes. Participants MUST have a valid (current) pesticide applicator license in either agriculture or landscape to receive the 6.0 CEP points.
