Course Description
This course is designed as a refresher course for dental hygiene graduates who have been licensed to practice in Canada. This course will consist of an on-line pre-study component and a clinical component. The pre-study component will support participants as they prepare for the clinical portion of the course. Participants will review and be involved in a number of learning activities related to professionalism, ethics, jurisprudence, and the dental hygiene process of care. The clinical portion of the refresher course will consist of instruction, continuous assessment and evaluation of students’ knowledge, and performance of pre-clinical and clinical procedures. Participants will spend the first portion of the clinical component completing pre-clinical instrumentation review and will move to clinical delivery of dental hygiene care for the second portion of the clinical component caring for clients with progressively challenging care needs. Both a five-day and a ten-day clinical course will be offered depending on the learning needs of the participant.

June 12, 2025 - last day to complete the online component (this component will take 3 months to complete)

The Dental Hygiene Refresher Course is offered by the Department of Continuing Education in the Faculty of Dentistry. Both a 5-day and a 10-Day clinical course are offered. The 5-day course is designed for dental hygiene graduates who have been out of practice for less than 5 years and are wishing to re-enter the dental hygiene workforce, or who are currently in the workforce and seeking to upgrade their competence. The 10-day course is designed for dental hygiene graduates who have been out of the workforce for more than 5 years. All applicants must have held a license to practice dental hygiene in Canada. Applications will be reviewed to determine eligibility for either the 5-day or 10-day clinic refresher.
