This course covers the following components of electrical systems within a residential structure: wiring systems, service panels, grounding systems, devices and fixtures.

Courses can be taken on a stand-alone basis. If you plan to pursue the full certificate program you must submit an application to the Program Director. You can access the application form here.

What You Will Learn

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Inspect the following to identify the type, material, condition and safety concerns of:
    • wiring systems
    • interior components of service panels and subpanels
    • devices
    • equipment and fixtures (switches, lights and receptacles)
    • grounding systems
    • service drops
    • laterals
  • Define and use proper terminology related to electrical systems
  • Identify the common problems with each electrical component named as well as the causes and implications of each issue
  • Document and report on each inspection procedure related with each component
