The purpose of this certificate is to track your readiness to apply for Fire Officer IV certification. 

Who Should Take This Certificate?

The Fire Officer IV Accreditation Track is applicable to individuals who have already received their Fire Officer III certification.

Certificate Requirements

This certificate consists of four (4) courses over 126 hours:

  • OLCD-LGOV0014 Local Government (formerly OLCD-FIRE0020 Municipal Government and Service Delivery)
  • OLCD-FIRE0013 Fire Department Human Resource Management II
  • OLCD-FIRE0011 Emergency Medical Service Management and the Fire Department
  • OLCD-FIRE0022 Program Evaluation and Statistics

If you have obtained your Fire Officer III accreditation, you may apply for Fire Officer IV certification upon successful completion of the above courses and by submitting the application. At least one course in the certificate must have been taken in the fall 2013 term or later. All must have received a grade of 70% or higher. Some required courses may include credit given for transferable equivalencies from other institutions. This will result in a course (or courses) being exempted by Dalhousie University Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development. Exempted courses are treated as equivalent completed courses.

Fees and Schedule

See each course for the applicable tuition fee. Courses start in September, January and April. Each course is offered at least once a year.
